*FACTS FROM THE ROAD
27.03.2000 - the long awaited fanclub-concert of the band took place in Londons Shepherds Bush. The band performed playback the 15 songs of the new cover album, which was to be released on 15th April. After the presentation a 50 minutes live show followed. The show was recorded and the songs "Gerdundula"; "4500 Times / Rain" were later published on the 2 single-releases... And it was the last concert of drummer Jeff Rich, who shortly announced his retirement..
19.05.2000 - Matt Letley's first ever Status Quo gig kicked off in the Ostseehalle Kiel. The german tour spanned a total of 18 shows and after 3-weeks break another 4 german dates. Special guests of the first shows were "Fair Warning", after that local bands appeared as support. Andy Bown retired from live work with the band because of personal reasons. His substitute was found in keyboard player Paul Hirsh, who had to learn the live set within shortest time to be ready for the german tour.
29.05.2000 - due to the lack of a support band, crew members Tonto and Dave Salt rented a DJ deck at the Lübeck MuK gig and goggles to treat the bemused audience to forty minutes of total mayhem and absolute confusion.
10.06.2000 - the penultimate gig of the german tour in Steinbach provided the only fright of the tour where drummer Matt Letley really earned his wings when he threw a drum stick in the air at the end of "Roll Over Lay Down". he missed the stick, fell backwards off the riser and knocked over lights and a Marshall cabinet as he went down. Dazed and extremly confused, he immediately recovered his composition and carried on.
28.10.2000 - By way of introducing the Australian public to their presence in Australia, Quo indulged themselves in another of their one-off "more bizarre the better" publicity stunts, on Saturday 28th October prior to the start of their Australian concert tour.
Leaving the Queensland capital of Brisbane in the morning, Quo and a party of around 130 invited guests took the opulent Great Southern Pacific Express train out to the historic township of Grandchester. Upon arrival, they were to play a short live set to their guests and the townsfolk, before returning to Brisbane. In the event, a few 'outsiders' had gotten wind of the event and the band would eventually see themselves before a crowd of around 500 eager fans who waited patiently under the fierce Queensland sun for their idols.
04.11.2000 - the show in Brisbane nearly didn't happen as, just before the doors of the Entertainment Centre were due to open, an electrical storm cut the venues power supply. Power was only restored an hour later when a feed was made from an emergency sub-station. Highlight of the show came when Quo's original keyboard player Roy Lynes (a long time Australian resident after the departure from Quo) joined the band for the encore to play "Roll Over Beethoven".
07.12.2000 - the show in Cambridge Corn Exchange was cancelled at short notice due to Rick Parfitt suffering severe stomach pains and was rescheduled to take place on 24.1.2001.
29.01.2001 - the band (without Francis) did an unusual interview for Germany's Radio 21 Rock Radio. The band were airlifted by helicopter from their Braunschweig Hotel to undertake a two hour long live interview at the station's Hannover base. Filled with an audience of Quo fans, the band answered questions from both the fans and Radio 21 presenters before being returned by helicopter direct to the sell out Braunschweig gig.
13.06.2001 - the opening show on the German dates was a special charity festival for comedian Jim Davidson's British Forces Charity. The gig, which took place in the grounds of the British Army base at Paderborn, Germany, in front of 12 000 British troops and their families was the band's second bizarre private gig in less than six weeks.
30.08.2001 - Manager David Walker dies unexpectedly at the age of 57 following a heart attack. David Walker had been Quo's manager for a total of 13 years. Rick and Francis had known David Walker since the mid-70s when he was also looking after Pip Williams, among others. David Walker had been involved with many artists (The Sweet, Mud, Kate Bush, The Moody Blues, Barclay James Harvest and son on..) either as manager, agent or production representative during his nearly thirty long career in the music business.
08.09.2001 - Quo appeared shortly after the death of manager David Walker on the hugely popular Swedish bingo show "Bingolotto" on September 8th. Filmed in Göteborg, they kicked off the show with "Whatever You Want" and later played "Old Time Rock 'n' Roll" plus "Rockin' All Over The World" live in the Studio.
